Schools & Education — Ventilation Hygiene & Cleaning

VentilationHygiene.uk works with school business managers, multi-academy trust estates teams and university facilities directors to plan and deliver ventilation hygiene across education buildings. From single primary schools to large multi-site estates, we structure cleaning and inspection around term dates, exams and the day-to-day reality of running a busy education site.

  • Classroom and hall ductwork hygiene
  • AHU and plant room cleaning
  • School and college kitchen extract
  • Holiday-window programme delivery
  • Inspection-led works prioritisation
  • Photographic and written evidence

Practical ventilation hygiene for education estates

Education buildings have some of the most varied ventilation arrangements of any sector — naturally ventilated Victorian classrooms, modern mechanically ventilated teaching blocks, sports halls with their own AHUs and busy commercial-scale kitchens. Estates teams are responsible for keeping all of that in serviceable condition with limited windows, tight budgets and very little tolerance for disruption during term time.

Our role is to deliver focused, practical school ventilation hygiene and inspection work that lines up with the academic calendar and gives the estates team a documented record of system condition over time.

Classrooms, halls and teaching blocks

Where buildings are mechanically ventilated, classroom diffusers, return grilles and supply ductwork accumulate dust and fibre that affect both comfort and the look of the ceiling void. Cleaning is delivered using HEPA-extracted negative-pressure methods, with internal camera surveys before and after works. The same approach scales up to assembly halls, sports halls and university lecture theatres, where AHUs and duct runs are larger but the principles are identical. See our broader duct cleaning service for the underlying methodology.

AHUs and plant rooms

Plant room AHUs serving teaching blocks and halls are typically the highest-impact cleaning target on an education estate. A single AHU clean often resolves complaints across multiple rooms at once. Our AHU cleaning addresses coils, drain trays, fans, filter housings and internal surfaces, with the unit fully documented before and after the work.

Kitchens and catering facilities

School and college kitchens generate the same grease loading as any commercial kitchen and need to be treated accordingly. Where the brief includes catering extract systems, we deliver kitchen extract cleaning to BESA TR19 Grease standards, with the access points, accessibility limitations and post-clean condition recorded for the estate's records.

Inspection and prioritisation

Most education estates benefit far more from an honest inspection than from blanket cleaning. Our ventilation system inspection service grades the condition of each system, identifies the highest priorities and gives the estate a practical plan for using the available holiday windows in the most useful order — starting with the worst systems first, rather than the most convenient ones.

Working around the academic calendar

We plan delivery around half-terms, holidays and out-of-hours windows. For multi-academy trusts and larger colleges we structure programmes across multiple sites and multiple holidays so that the trust's estate receives consistent reporting and a rolling, documented hygiene record. Our planned ventilation maintenance guide page gives further background on planning these cycles.
